This was a very unique project. Building a tidy structure is one thing, however building it to match an existing house and look like it was always there requires a specialised skill set. We were approached because that is what we do. The build had its challenges, and as you can see by the photos there were plenty of details to keep us on our toes.

The project ran smoothly from start to finish, and the client was rapt with the end result, and so were we.

This beach house was a great build. Simple in construction, yet oozing class. Having designed the building themselves, Mike and Jan engaged Brown & Brown to work with them and turn the drawings into their dream home. Located on the exposed west coast of Taranaki, the project obviously had its challenges, but we were up for it. Built like a rock, this home could stand up to New Zealand’s harshest conditions. It's clad in a combination of vertical ship lapped cedar weatherboard and Mike’s own river-stone work. The ‘ageing stain’ on the cedar helps the house fit right in with its surrounding instantly. It is a work of art. Our designer Andrew even helped build this.

At Brown & Brown we share a real passion for preserving beautiful old buildings. We added another wing to this villa, making space for a master bedroom with ensuite. The intention was to make it appear it was always like that.
